Community Education

It is the philosophy of the KU Police Department that everyone should be involved in making their community safer. We inform and engage students, faculty, staff and others to ensure they have the knowledge and awareness of how to protect themselves and make our campus community safer.

Community Services staff education and outreach activities include:

  • Speaking to incoming freshmen and transfer students during orientation fairs hosted by the Office of First Year Experience.
  • Partnering with staff from Watkins Health Center and Student Life to present a program on campus safety and health issues.
  • Providing guidance and direction to international students through a presentation designed to assist in their transition from their home country to life in the United States of America.
  • Presenting programs throughout the year in residence halls, Greek houses, and to classes in the Lawrence and KU communities.

Specific programs include:

  •     First Year Experience information fairs
  •     Alcohol Awareness Week
  •     Safe Spring Break
  •     Hawks, Cops and Kids
  •     Personal safety programs
  •     Lawrence Bike Rodeo
  •     Fake ID presentations
  •     KU Department of Student Housing training
  •     What to do in the event of an Active Threat (Active Shooter)
