Security Device Services
The University of Kansas Office of Public Safety prides itself in maintaining a safe and secure environment for its faculty, staff, and students. In order to help maintain and improve security throughout the campus, we maintain the University’s, electronic access sites, physical key access, closed circuit camera system, and intrusion alarms across campus. In order to utilize these services, you must complete the appropriate forms to request a security assessment in order for us to determine the most efficient and effective security measures to make your area safer. If you would like our Security Professional to come to your office, building, etc. to conduct a site-specific security assessment, please complete the Security Assessment Form (.pdf). The site assessment is a service that we provide for a nominal fee. We will schedule a time for a tour of your area at which time we will discuss your security concerns and provide preliminary recommendations on how to address those concerns. The Security Assessment Form must be completed and mailed or faxed (785-864-5211) to the Public Safety Office. All requests must have signed approval of the appropriate Dean, Director, or Chair before the tour is scheduled.
A security assessment must be conducted by the KU Public Safety Office before requesting electronic access. Please complete the Security Assessment Form (.pdf) and have the Dean, Director, or Chair approve the form and then mail or fax the form to the KU Public Safety Office. Our Security Professional will schedule a site-specific security assessment tour. The site assessment is provided for a nominal fee. The cost of the lock(s), installation, and the ongoing maintenance cost of the lock(s) is the responsibility of the department requesting the service. The electronic access devices used will be those approved by the KU Public Safety Office in accordance with the University's Key and Electronic Lock Policy.
If your facility already has electronic card readers managed by Public Safety and your KU ID card is declined at a time and location you believe to have been programmed with access, please fill out our Card Access Incident Report.
The University's general intent is to minimize the issuance of physical keys and migrate to electronic access. All requests for physical keys must be approved by the KU Public Safety Office in accordance with the University's Key and Electronic Lock Policy. Only Deans, Directors, or Chairs may request physical keys. Begin this approval process by submitting an online service request. The re-keying of a centrally scheduled classroom requires approval from the Vice Provost for Administration and Finance in consultation with the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.
